UNADILLA AREA FOUNDATION MINUTES

10-26-10

The meeting was called to order by President Barb Wilhelm with Bob Brandt, Larry Larson, Peggy Leefers and Margo Larson present.

Minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved without any additions or corrections.

A short discussion was held in regard to the memorial plaque for the park shelter.  It was noted that electricity, a storage room and a serving line is currently being installed.  There is approximately $16,000 left of the grant and donations to complete the project.   It should be noted that the BBQ this coming June will be held on the fourth Saturday, which is June 25, 2011.

Bob indicated that he had applied for a $500 grant for the Otoe County Visitors Day for the upcoming Groundhog Celebration.  Peggy commented that she probably needs to get a list of things needed for the kitchen and library at the school.  Currently she is looking for a refrigerator for the kitchen, a vacuum, and cleaning equipment.

Approximately 243 solicitation letters for the ALL Fund Drive were mailed.  A copy of the letter mailed is attached to these minutes.  Please let us know if you know someone who did not receive a letter and would like to receive one.  We probably missed some household, but not on purpose.  The cost of the mailing was $106.92 and was paid by Countryside Bank.

A lengthy discussion was held in regard to the all aspects of Groundhogs Day Celebration, February 5, 2011.  Updated comments are as follows:

1.       The Unadilla Gym – Peggy will be coordinating all activities in regard to the Gym.  The flea market will open at 8:30 a.m. and be open to the public.  Peggy will be there early in the morning to help setup the displays.  She will also be there at 6:00 p.m. on Friday evening getting ready.  If you would like to volunteer to help Peggy, please give her a call at 828-5725.  All money made from the Flea Market will be donated to the Unadilla Library.

2.       The silent auction will also be at the gym and it will close at 12:00 p.m.  Margo and Larry Larson will be in charge.  Every member of the foundation will try to solicit businesses for contributions.  Please let us know if you would like to. Any item of value (over $25) would be much appreciated for the auction.

3.       Christian Church Bake Sale – This will begin at 9:00 a.m. and generally concludes within an hour.

4.       Mama Prelle’s will be serving coffee and rolls starting at 8:30 a.m. followed by lunch after the speaker.

5.       Speaker – Karen Drevo will have an educational reenactment of the life of Maria Rodaway at 10:30 a.m. at the Gym.

6.       Methodist Church luncheon – as always this luncheon will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Methodist Church.

7.       T-shirt Sales will be conducted by the youth at the gym and also the Duncan Bldg from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

8.       Duncan Building – Soup and Jerky entries will be accepted at the Duncan Building from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Judging will take place during the Parade and winners will be announced approximately 15 minutes after the parade.  A free will donation will be taken to sample the soup and jerky after the contest.  The donations will go to the Unadilla Area Foundation.  Entrance can retrieve their crock pots after 3:30 p.m.

9.       The Bar – The King and Queen will be announced at 2:00 p.m. in addition to the winners of the parade floats.  Note: any suggestions for King and Queen Candidates should be forwarded to any foundation member and we will forward them to the nomination committee.

10.   A short discussion was also held in regard to the change in the BBQ date from the 3rd to 4th Saturday in June.  This was done to eliminate as many conflicts as possible.  Bob indicated that he is working on getting a tour to the Dieken Prairie sometime during the day and perhaps a question and answer session either on-site or at the Duncan Building.  We will contact Tim Knott and/or Ernie Roucek from the Audubon Society to help out.

There being no further business the meeting was adjourned.  The next meeting is scheduled for December 7th 14th or November 30, 2010 at 10:00 a.m.
