Unadilla Area Foundation Meeting Minutes
1-17-2012
The meeting was called to order by President Barb Wilhelm at 10:10 a.m. with Bob Brandt, Larry Larson, and Donna Crownover, our newest member in attendance. Absent were Peggy Leefers and Maureen Vogt. Minutes of the previous meeting were approved without any additions or corrections.
A flyer was reviewed, which has been printed by the Otoe County Visitors Committee (OCVC). The flyer has a picture and a small promotion for our celebration. OCVC is also donating $500 for advertising expense for the celebration. Donna is on the OCVC also.
Bob noted that we now have a balance of $1,015 in the endowment fund for future maintenance of our Community Center, the old school and gymnasium. This has been invested in long-term funds with the Community Foundation. This is the start of our drive to fund the operating expenses of our Community Center. The previous school was built in 1991 and the gym in 1952. Both are in excellent condition and house the Village Office and Community Library, in addition to Paul and Tiffany Tingler’s photography studio (The Photographer). Stay tuned for future goals and fund raising actions.
The following items were discussed in regard to the upcoming Groundhog’s Day celebration:
1. Maureen will help out at the Duncan Building with the soup contest.
2. Larry & Margo will conduct the silent auction as the gym in the Community Center as they have in the past. Larry is looking for some help the morning of the celebration and is also looking for additional silent auction items. Call him at 828-2008 or 269-7251 (cell).
3. Donna indicated that she would be willing to help at the Duncan Building with the judging contest, t-shirt sales, and making sure that the Legion Color Guard has a place to gather after the parade. She will also help out with the announcing of the parade events and the judging of floats.
4. Bob indicated that he still has to contact the bands for Groundhog’s Day Parade, verify the color guards, make sure hot dogs and chips are on hand for the Duncan Building, and coordinate any radio advertizing that may be needed. Donna indicated that some advertising will be done on NET, which she arranged through the Otoe County Visitors Committee.
Barb indicated that the Regional Community Foundation meeting will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2012 in the Duncan Building. Lunch will be severed at 5:30 p.m. by The Bar and the meeting will take place between 6:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
A short discussion was held in regard to the king and queen reunion, which will take place in the Duncan Building on the evening of Groundhog’s Day, February 2, 2012. This celebration is to recognize past kings and queens and everyone is invited. You may bring appetizers if you wish. Otherwise, refreshments will be provided by the Unadilla Area Foundation and free will donations will be accepted. Bob indicated that we are still looking for kings and queens from 1987 through 1992. It seems that these records are a bit fuzzy!
Barb indicated that she will take requests for signage for the Community Center to the next town board meeting. The Community Foundation has committed funds for this project not to exceed $500.
It was noted that the next meeting will be February 21, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. There being no further business the meeting was adjourned.
