IT DRIVES ME BATTY

By Renowned Cub Reporter Bob Wilhelm

This summer John and Gera Stilwell invited the Nebraska Game & Parks Commission to conduct the Nebraska North American Bat Monitoring Program on their property between Unadilla and Palmyra. As you will see from the letter and information below, there were 7 different bat species detected. I am trying to get clarification on what constitutes a "call." At this point, my thought is that the numbers indicate the frequency of "interaction" by that specific species with the monitoring devices. I was surprised at the number of species that are in our area. It was also interesting to learn that 97.2% of Nebraska's land is privately owned. Enjoy the information below, and thank you John and Gera for sharing!

NEWS FROM 100 YEARS AGO

 Boy reading newspaper 250

Friday, 2-13-1925, The Otoe Union:

"Two short courses on Gas Engine work are being held this week in Otoe County." Rev. Gabler of Syracuse married Gilmore T. Schreiner (son of N.J. Schreiner), Unadilla, and Ella M. Gartner (dau. of Henry Gartner, Sr.), also of Unadilla. "A singular coincidence of this wedding is that Miss Gartner was the third sister to marry a Schreiner boy." Minnie E. (Stedman) Finigan died and was buried at Hopewell. "Our mail carriers are having a very tough time."
