Belated congratulations to Perry Stoner: "NET is pleased to announce

that Perry Stoner has accepted the new position of Executive

Producer, Media Services. Perry's work has been admired over the

years, first as a videographer and then as a producer/director

for NET News. In that position, he has been responsible for

producing/writing/directing a range of productions, including in-depth

Signature Stories for radio and the web, and full-length television

documentaries on a range of issues. He has also coordinately

closely with leadership at the Unicameral to coordinate our coverage,

produced both live and recorded studio productions, and recently,

was a key member of the QUEST Nebraska science media team.

In Perry's new role, he will lead a group in the creation of contract

productions, television underwriting sports, local pledge breaks, and

will manage other video production needs of both the NET Foundation

and NET Education & Interactive Media. NET has been looking

carefully at how to enhance efficiency, to deliver consistent

quality, and to provide a mentor for its team members so, we're

shifting this position from Operations/Media Services to

Television Production reporting to Joe Turco, Manager

Television Production."

Please fly an American flag of any size on 9-11, Patriot Day.

In the days, weeks, and months following 9-11, our country was

bathed in flags as citizens mourned the incredible lossess and stood

shoulder to shoulder against terrorism. Sadly, those flags have all

but disappeared. Honor those who lost their lives, and their families,

and those who are fighting today, at home and abroad,

to preserve our freedom.

From Russ Topp, Circuit Rider for NeRWA:

(Give this test to your friends, family, and co-workers. Be careful

when testing your kids or grandkids, they may surprise you!)

1. How do you put a giraffe into a refrigerator? A: Open the refrigerator,

put in the giraffe, and close the door. This question tests whether

you tend to do simple things in an overly complicated way.

2. How do you put an elephant into the refrigerator? Did you say,

"Open the refrigerator, put in the elephant and close the door?"

Wrong answer. A: Open the fridge, take out the giraffe, put in the

elephant, and close the door. This tests your ability to think through

the repercussions of your previous actions.

3. The Lion King is hosting an animal conference. All the animals

attend...Except one. Which animal does not attend?

A: The elephant! It is in the fridge! You just put him there. This

tests your memory. Okay, even if you did not answer the first three

questions correctly, you still have one more chance to show

your true abilities.

4. There is a river you must cross but it is used by crocodiles,

and you do not have a boat. How do you manage it?

A: You jump in the river and swim across. Have you not been

listening? All the crocodiles are attending the animal conference.

This tests whether you learn quickly from your mistakes.

According to Anderson Consulting Worldwide, around 90% of

the professionals they tested got all questions wrong, but many

preschoolers got several correct. Anderson Consulting says

this conclusively proves the theory that most professionals

do not have the brains of a four-year old.

The Travis Burkman Benefit

This letter is on behalf of the Travis Burkman Family. Travis, husband of Karla West, is a 35 year old loving husband and father of two who has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Brain Cancer. As part of the fundraising team for the Travis Burkman Benefit, I am here seeking donations.

On December 26, 2009, Travis had a seizure while holding his twin two year old sons. A subsequent MRI showed a tumor followed by the most devastating news of all, Stage 3 Astrocytoma Cancer which a biopsy confirmed. Travis had been an otherwise healthy and active 33 year old husband and father. On February 2, 2010, Travis had the tumor removed during an eight hour surgery.

In January 2012, Travis noticed infection type symptoms around the scar on his scalp. As a result, Travis had surgery to remove a portion of his skull. During this surgery, the doctor took a biopsy the area where the tumor had been removed. He then prescribed intravenous antibiotic treatments. Travis had to function without part of his skull for three months while he received these treatments. Unfortunately, those results confirmed the Cancer was back and this time it was a Stage 4 Glioblastoma. At that time Travis began a treatment plan of taking an oral chemotherapy pill & having MRI scans every 2 months to check for change.

On August 9, 2012, Cancer growth was detected which meant the chemotherapy pill was no longer working. Currently, Travis is experiencing frequent seizures, immobility of his right hand, arm, leg, and foot as well as difficulties with speech. At this time he is no longer able to work.

Family and close friends of Travis are hosting a benefit to help him and his family with medical and living expenses. The Travis Burkman Benefit will be held on Friday, October 19, 2012 at Heidelberg's North Bar & Grill. There will be a live band, silent auction, raffle and 10% of all proceeds from food and beverage purchases that evening will be contributed to the benefit.

In order to make this event a success, we are looking to businesses for support. We are asking for a donation of any item, service, or gift card you would be willing to supply. If you prefer to contribute a monetary gift instead, the Travis Burkman Donation Fund has been set up and contributions can be made at or mailed to any Union Bank location. Please know any contribution would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for supporting the Travis Burkman Family!

Auditions at Lofte Theatre

Manley, NE [August 22, 2012] - The Lofte Theatre in Manley is holding open auditions on Monday, September 10 and Tuesday, September 11 at 7pm for their fall farce, "Whose Wives Are They Anyway?"  Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.  No preparation is necessary.  Those with all levels of acting experience are welcome to attend.  Roles are available for four men and four women ages 20-65.  Rehearsals will start at the end of September.  Performance dates are Oct 20, 21, 26-28 and Nov 1-4.

The plot of the script revolves around two company executives who have planned a weekend of golf before their new C.E.O. arrives.  While their wives are off on a shopping spree, the new boss arrives who insists upon meeting them.  The men find substitute wives, but as in any classic farce, nothing ever goes as planned and mistaken identities abound.

Those with questions about the audition process or the production itself may contact Lofte Artistic Director, Kevin Colbert at 402.234.2553.
