Arlin Liesemeyer had a wonderful display at the OCGS "Walk of Memories"

Saturday, October 20th. It was enjoyed by young and old alike. The

turnout was small, but the people that attended were very passionate

about history. Dick Haskins, author, was there, as well as the State

Genealogical Society and Lincoln-Lancaster Genealogical Society.

Sunday was a great day to visit Waubonsie Park, just 5 miles east of

Nebr. City. So often we drive by the entrance and think we don't have time

to go in. The new cabins are very nice, as is the big picnic shelter, which

we had never seen before. The scenery and view from the overlook

were just as beautiful as always. A stop at Mincer Orchard provided

some delicious treats, and their new booklet listed some interesting

facts: it was originally called the Taylor Fruit Farm (who often advertised

in the old Unadilla papers), and in 1910 it was the only orchard in Iowa

that didn't lose their apple crop due to the killing freeze of April 17. Then

owner, C.E. Mincer, an avid researcher, placed 1000 crude oil

burning smudge pots around the orchard and kept them going around

the clock. He saved 90% of his crop and became famous for his method.

It has been brought to my attention that not everyone in town's

birthday or anniversary is listed here. Due to the HIPPA law that was

passed, this is something you have to request me to do, i.e. give

I don't have access to all public records) otherwise, you can send it to
