Unadilla Fire & Rescue held their monthly meeting on

Tuesday, January 12, and it included election of officers.

Ben Leseberg is now the new Captain for the Unadilla

Rescue Squad, taking the place of Linda Liesemeyer,

who has served proudly since the Squad began its service

over 20 years ago. Linda will remain as an EMT and will

help train Ben for his new leadership position. We thank

and congratulate each of them! If you are interested in

joining the Fire Department or the Rescue Squad, please

contact Steve Vodicka. We would love to welcome

some new members!

Please note the Books & Brew Book Club has been

changed to Friday, January 23, 9 am @Library.

It's time to start voting for the Groundhog Royal couple. King candidates are: Jack Stilwell, Kevin Randall, Steve Schutz, and Todd Zahn. Queen candidates are: Michele Capps, Jordan Lechner, Lori Starzec, and Tammy Bayliss. There will be a Groundhog Kings & Queen's reception at 5 pm on January 29th at The Bar. Any "true believer" is welcome!

The Unadilla Area Fund will sponsor Unadilla Bill's Breakfast at the Duncan Building on Monday morning, February 2, at 7 am. Bill will make his prediction at precisely 7:32 am. Free will offering.

The Unadilla Library will host a special exhibit on Groundhog Day that will feature the Village of Unadilla in miniature, complete with Lionels trains. Each building has been reproduced from historical information and photos by Corey Schulze and Sharon Demaree. It includes a parade on Main Street with floats and the Groundhog Falcon, the old elevator with a grain car loading beside it, Historic Main Street buildings, Fire Dept., Dan's Tire, Rod's Conoco, Christian Church, old brick schoolhouse and gym, and more! Sharon, a very talented artist who works in many mediums, will have a display in the library also. You may purchase Groundhog books, cookie cutters, and pins at the Library's fundraising table along with many duplicate books.

A quilt show coordinated by Christie Brehm will be set up in the room next to the Village Office and will feature a number of vintage quilts. If you have a quilt you would like to display, please call Peggy Leefers at 402-828-5725. You may also call her about vendor spaces.

The Christian Church Women's Circle will serve lunch in the gym from 11-12:30, menu to follow next week.

New books at the Library include "American Sniper", "Unforgiven", "Gone Girl", and several Kristen Hannah books.

Sunday evening, January 18, the American Legion Post #100 and the VFW Post #5547 and their auxiliaries held their annual holiday dinner at the Syracuse Country Club. Those attending from Unadilla: Ron & Lois Johnson, Chuck & Bev Bjork, Gordon Hopp, Shari Timm, Larry Larson, Gerri Eisenhauer, and Bob Wilhelm. Several Boy Scouts also attended. A great meal was served by Prelle Catering.

Perry Stoner invites you to turn to NET on February 3 to watch the premiere of "The Big Burn: American Experience (WGBH)". In the summer of 1910, hundreds of wildfires raged across the Northern Rockies. By the time it was all over, more than three million acres had burned and at least 78 firefighters were dead. Ignited during the United States Forest Service's infancy, the largest fire in American history had profound consequences. It reinforced for Americans the value of land protected for the common good and assured the future of the Forestry Service, but it had profoundly tragic ramifications as well.

Miss Catherine Butt resigned as postmistriss due to ill

health. She had received her commission on 2-28-1896.

A daughter was born to Ora Baker's and a son to Otto

Cook's. There was a 3 day vaudeville show at the Town

Hall. Curtis Massie rented the Ed Wallen farm;

Ed moved to Palmyra.
